Operating Principle: Vibration is induced by the linear motion of a coated, alloy steel piston being driven by compressed air (or another inert gas) within an alloy steel or ductile iron cylindrical body. The Speed or Frequency, measured as Vibrations-Per-Minute (VPM), is equal to the number of times the piston strikes (directly or cushioned) the base to exert an impact force. The VPM is adjustable using an air regulator to adjust inlet PSI. The smaller the piston, the higher the VPM at the same PSI air pressure. Higher PSI causes higher VPM. Impact Force (ft-lbf) developed is based on the size of piston and the VPM at which it repeatedly strikes the base. A larger piston (heavier impact weight) or an increase in VPM results in an increase in impact force produced. Piston Vibrators are available in Direct Impact type (metal-to-metal strike or metal-to-urethane pad strike), and Air Cushioned type (metal-to-pad of compressed air at both ends of the stroke), and are available in Continuous Impacting, Timed Impacting, and Single Impacting models.

Sizing Guide: Piston Vibrators, when used to prompt material flow, are sized based on the weight and characteristics of the material in the sloped portion of the bin/hopper and the vessel's wall thickness. Generally, for consistent, long term results, select a Piston Vibrator that at 80 PSI (can be run @ 40 to 100 PSI) produces 1 ft-lbf for every 3-lbs of moist or sticky stored material; 1 ft-lbf for every 10-lbs of dry, course stored material weighing < 50 lb/ft3; or 1 ft-lbf for every 7-lbs of dry, course stored material weighing > 50 lb/ft3.
