While the normal process of carrying bulk materials on a belt conveyor results in the majority of cargo leaving the belt, as every user knows, residual material, known as carryback, will cling to the belt and eventually fall from the belt during its return run. This carryback accumulates in piles under the belt, leads to excessive wear, builds-up on return idlers, pulleys and the conveyor structure, causes belt misalignment, and increases power consumption. Carryback is actively associated with serious accidents, and adversely affects conveyor operation and plant efficiency. Carryback clean-up is an expensive, dangerous and dirty job. Fortunately, this carryback problem can be all but eliminated with the right belt scraper or belt cleaner system.
